I worked on this painting over the span of more than a decade, layering materials and meaning as the years passed. Incorporated into the composition are Chinese Joss papers, pages from an old datebook, canceled stamps, and fragments inspired by Joan Miró and Basquiat.

I often title my paintings after a specific piece of collage, and at one point, I considered calling this one Ricky’s Urban Groove. Like many of my works, it has carried multiple names over time—each reflecting a different stage of its evolution.
