CRYING GIANT

This painting belongs to my Trees series. Its title, Crying Giant, comes from magazine scraps featuring drawings by American sculptor Tom Otterness, whose bronze sculpture of the same name stands at the Kemper Museum. I layered in unexpected materials—foil from a celebratory drink and fragments of papel picado—adding texture, light, and a sense of maybe a party gone wrong to the work.
