BEDECKED BEJEWEL BADAZZL
$500.00
Mixed media | Acrylic paint wood shelf | 2004 | 9-3/8” x 38”
I made this piece on an old, reclaimed wooden shelf, letting its charming, weathered surface inspire the layout. Layers of paint, charcoal, and collage come together to create a landscape of changing shapes—kind of like a mix of architecture and memories. The collage text, “BEDECKED BEJEWEL BE DAZZL,” is from found print, with bold typography that acts as a kind of marquee, giving the piece a lively feel. Small bits of vintage images and advertising peek through translucent paint, hinting at stories from the past.
I worked mostly by feel, blending earthy tones with pops of pink, teal, and chartreuse, while keeping the natural textures of the wood and paper visible. This artwork is all about what's shown and what’s left to the imagination—a celebration of charming imperfections and unique details.
